Background of the Study: Occupational health services (OHS) are essential for protecting workers from occupational hazards and ensuring their well-being. In Sokoto State, factories that produce goods such as textiles, cement, and food items face numerous health and safety challenges, including exposure to dust, chemicals, and physical strain (Alhassan et al., 2024). Occupational health services are designed to address these hazards by providing medical care, implementing preventive measures, and promoting health education among workers. However, in many factories, access to effective occupational health services is limited, and the quality of these services varies significantly.
This study aims to assess the barriers to effective occupational health services in factories in Sokoto State, focusing on factors such as inadequate resources, lack of trained personnel, and the challenges workers face in accessing healthcare services. Understanding these barriers is crucial for developing strategies to improve occupational health services and protect workers from preventable health risks.
Statement of the Problem: Despite the importance of occupational health services in factories, many workers in Sokoto State face significant barriers to accessing these services. The lack of trained personnel, limited resources, and inadequate infrastructure often hinder the effectiveness of OHS in preventing workplace-related illnesses and injuries. This study seeks to identify the barriers to effective occupational health services in Sokoto State factories and provide recommendations for improving these services.
